Son, My Son 02:39
Son, My Son I went down to the market to buy whatever I wanted I told the woman who worked there I was afraid to leave my home She said “son, my son, that’s how I feel ev’ry day.” I got back in my automobile to fill the tank again I told the station worker I was afraid to go downtown She said “son, my son, that’s how I feel ev’ry day.” At the demonstration I faced all the police They looked afraid behind their masks I just wanted to tell them Son, my son, we don’t have to live this way Son, my son, we don’t have to live this way Sons and daughters, we don’t have to live this way I laid my head on a pillow safe and sound at home I prayed to God for an answer I just really wanted an answer how do we help each other She said “son, my son, that’s what I ask ev’ry day Son, my son, that’s what I ask ev’ry day

Real Revolution I had come undone. I was feeling unsung. Went back upstate and got my bell real rung. I thought I knew where I was going but forgot where I came from. I fell asleep on the job, people and woke up on the run. I dreamed of a real revolution. My old way of thinking had me tied up and blind I was out of direction I was out of right mind. Tired of backsliding, living in the past. Tired of going absolutely nowhere fast. I had a problem that needed solution. I was in need of a real revolution. I was afraid to think it.
I was afraid to do it. I was afraid I might not even live through it. Now I’m changing my name, learning to sing. Most of all I’m changing everything. I’m laying my old words behind me, under the sun. My new words are a gun to taking aim on the real revolution. Real revolution doesn’t have to be the violent kind Real revolution takes place in your heart and in your mind. Don’t turn your back on it this time. Turn around to face the real revolution. Out in the big world there’s lot’s of pain. Monsters and shadows and terrible things. There’s something else that’s stronger than the night. You have to be willing to change up the fight and admit your mistakes in what has been said and done then step into the light of the real revolution.

The Weight Of Changing Everything You and I been through so much together High highs and low lows everything in between. Over and under the stormy weather, you have brought me back to my knees. When I'm stuck in my head it's a dangerous place I'm not responsible nor good for much of anything. Thank you sweet darling for stepping in my path Thank you for helping me to unload the weight of changing everything. Not long ago some people got together and tried to start up a new country Somehow or another they lost their way and thought God and money were the very same thing. Many came along to try and fix the situation. Many have been shot down in the street. They woke up that morning and looked in the mirror- started with themselves by hoping to lift the weight of changing everything. Some say "if it ain't broke don't fix it." Sorry to tell you that you're wrong. When there's nothing left that's broken then we won't have to sing this song. Anyways there's only one thing that you have to change: everything. Nobody's perfect. Nobody should be. Nobody can get it right every day. Maybe you happen to have some answers. Please shine your light to help the rest of us carry the weight of changing everything.

Spirit Of The Night One hundred years after they burn this town down We’ll be singing your songs as the flames keep on getting us higher by the campfire light holding each other as we sing through the night Fi yi yi take me by the hand walk me through the forest to the Promised Land. By the bend of the river, we will deliver our souls to the Spirit of the Night From the Commonwealth to the Volunteer. From Traveler’s Rest to the Ketchikan Pier. Where the the mandolins and guitars ring with infinity as the fiddles sing. Fi yi yi take me by the hand walk me through the forest to the Promised Land. By the bend of the river, we will deliver our souls to the Spirit of the Night Seasons change and I’ll be traveling soon. Won’t you sit down with me under the Wayward Moon? Tell me a story, sing me a song. I might be leaving but I won’t be gone long. Fi yi yi take me by the hand walk me through the forest to the Promised Land. By the bend of the river, we will deliver our souls to the Spirit of the Night

Did Your Mother Teach You That? I heard your voice on the radio asking things that you knew- you said you knew, you thought you knew the answers to already How can one man hate so much, hate so much he brings the weakest of us down to his level? Did your brother teach you? Did some other teach you? You call yourself a preacher Did your Mother teach you that? People are born to love one another. You must have learned. Where did you learn to be so hateful? Nobody is born into this world with hate inside. Where did you learn? How did you learn to be so angry? Everyone in this world has to learn to get on or else live in pain, and fear, and darkness. When you say those hateful words to someone. To anyone- You have decided your own fate will be the same. Did your Mother teach you that?

Scratch The Sky We went to see the band in a ’68 Cadillac Sedan with letters on the side that said “Nazi Punks Fuck Off.” We were flying through the clouds on our very first trips up to the moon- or the Cleveland Coliseum, to be precise. Oh my oh my did you ever get so high you derailed the trains of thought that you were riding? Oh my oh my you could scratch the sky and find the thoughts you thought you lost were only hiding. You could go overseas and climb around up in the trees that grow inside your mind with proper maintenance and water. Take a slow train to Moravia and pray with the Blessed Savior as she melts away the glories of your youth. Oh my oh my did you ever get so high you derailed the trains of thought that you were riding? Oh my oh my you could scratch the sky and find the thoughts you thought you lost were only hiding. Hiding, quit hiding Travel up into the Hi-Desert You can probably get there from the Low Desert. Don’t get angry with yourself Take some time to learn your self In my country we get away with lots of things including fixing elections and killing presidents. Everybody makes a big stink. Then two days later were back to Martin Luther drinKing the Amnesia Kool-aid Oh my oh my did you ever get so high you derailed the trains of thought that you were riding? Oh my oh my you could scratch the sky and find the thoughts you thought you lost were only hiding Oh my oh my if you scratch the sky you’ll find the thoughts you thought were lost were only hiding, hiding, quit hiding.

DON’T SPECTATE; PARTICIPATE The time has come for us to go and use our voices, cast our votes. Half of us will just look on while the others try to fix what’s wrong. Don’t spectate; participate If you don’t give a damn and you’ve nothing to say, If you won’t give a damn then step out of the way. If I hear another citizen say “This election won’t affect me either way.” Well my selfish friend, that may be true but there’s a few more people in this world besides you. Don’t spectate; participate If you don’t give a damn and you’ve nothing to say, If you won’t give a damn then step out of the way. If I hear another coward say “If that one side wins then I’m moving away.” Do us a favor, and get the hell out now. This land was never your land anyhow. You can spectate while we participate. If you don’t give a damn and you’ve nothing to say, If you won’t give a damn it’s a God damned shame. If I hear about another regulation that prevents anybody from participation. Well, I say to you as you try to turn back time, A lot of citizens died so we could have this right. Don’t spectate; participate If you don’t give a damn and you’ve nothing to say Well If you don’t give a damn then get out of the way You might give a damn as you’re fading away but if you won’t give a damn it’s a God damned shame DON’T SPECTATE; PARTICIPATE The time has come for us to go and use our voices, cast our votes. Half of us will just look on while the others try to fix what’s wrong. Don’t spectate; participate If you don’t give a damn and you’ve nothing to say, If you won’t give a damn then step out of the way.
